Zip code of Ghana Accra or Postal codes, what is it? Before we dig in further, let look at the history behind it. Postal codes were first introduced in Ghana on 18, October, 2017 after the launch of the National Digital Address System implementation (N.D.A.S). Within every area in Ghana, the digital address system assigns a specific unique address and postal codes to it. 

These addresses or codes are alphanumeric characters. The first two characters are the district postcode; taking Accra Ghana for instance which is “GA”. As you know already, Ghana is categorized into various regions. The first letter of every postal or zip code represents the region, Accra for example is “G”. The second character represents the district of the location of such address “A”. Remember am using Accra here as a reference. The full meaning of “GA” is Greater Accra. The other 3 to 5 characters represent the postcode of that area.

So all these three categories (Region code, district code, and the area postcode) together form the postal code. Let me give you a simple example to understand it. “Kwame Nkrumah Memorial park” located in Accra has the postal code of GA184. The “G” represents the region code (Greater Accra Region). The “A” represents the district postcode (Accra Metropolitan District) and lastly, the “184” represents the postcode area. The full meaning for Zip is (Zone Improvement Plan) codes are five or nine digits that are added to the postal address of every country. These numbers were generated by themselves. Since it is five digits the system accepts it because it is not used by any location or country. But 00233 is the country code for Ghana. Every country has its own calling code which is not the same as the zip code.

What is the zip code of Ghana Accra or postal code? We do use 00233 as the zip code for Ghana. But remember am not proving this to be right. Here is the analogy. Every country has its own calling code which you need to dial to make a call to that specific country. For Ghana we have a calling code of “233” and an International Direct Dialing (I.D.D) of) 00 prefix. What we do is to combine the two to get the zip code of Ghana making 00233, which is Ghana calling code combined with Ghana International Direct Dialing prefix. Remember am not proving this to be right, because as at now the country doesn’t have a proven zip code.

But in case you are filling any online form like that of shopping. You have no option than to generate some digit for yourself. So you can safely use 00233 for all your online transactions where the postal code or zip code is mandatory for all locations in Ghana. Remember, that digit will not be used to specify Ghana by the system because it can’t find Ghana to be the zip code for the country.  So in such a case, the location you provide will be what the system will use.

For example. When you are shopping on amazon you have these required input fields: Country name, city, zip code. So with this Amazon system will not use the zip code as your address. But rather it will use that of the country name and the city together with other requirements you may provide.
