“We Are What We Repeatedly Do”: Aristotle (Quote)

We are what we repeatedly do

We are what we repeatedly do. Aristotle is known as one of the great philosophers who have ever lived. Most entrepreneurs or successful people who have achieved great things in life used his quote as a source of encouragement. So how can you also use it to your advantage? Well, a free bird has landed on your nest. And all that you need to do to catch it is to grab it with your hands. In this step by step guide, I will show you three things about habit formation. And why you look like what you repeatedly do. So pay close attention.

Imagine you can change all your bad habits in just three days after reading this guide. How happy will your life be? You will be the person everyone will like to be with. Your old friends who neglected you because of your habit will now associate with you. And what of your partner? He or she will love you more because now, you are a new person with nice habits. But right now, here you are without any of these. But it doesn’t have to be this way. The secret of finding the hacks to such an amazing life is just a few scrolls below. And all that you need to do is to scroll down…

We are what we do in life, the thought of our mind has brought us where we are. You are made or unmade by yourself. Remember, I don’t mean you created yourself, no. What I mean is that, if you will be poor or rich it all depends on yourself. Your success is in your own hands. That is why Aristotle said “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit.

So if something isn’t right with you, don’t blame anyone. Look within yourself, what are some of the habits that is preventing you from achieving your goals? Do those habits need to be amended or eliminated? Do the necessary corrections as soon as possible before it become out of control. You are the only one who has control of your habit and that is your power. So use that to your advantage and develop a good habit that will work for you and not against you. And remember, habit is nothing but what you repeatedly do.

A wise man once said. “There is no need to visit the priest for an enquiry about your future. If you want to know your tomorrow, look at what you are doing in the presence.“  So, if you are wasting 10 hours every day watching TV, while your peers are using those hours for developing their future. I can surely guest that, they will be more successful than you in the coming days. But you don’t have to allow that in your life. Don’t be an average and be enviously watching while others are enjoying great things. Life will be good when you alter what you do consistently.

Don’t waste your time and regret tomorrow. Time is the most precious gift we have. The number is equal to us, 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week. Don’t think others have much time than you, no. The rich and the poor, the beautiful and the ugliest, the short and the tallest have the same 24 hours in a day. What you do with that 24 hours is what will determine what you will accomplish in the future. Put in less effort and you will achieve less, put in much effort and great things will come to you. There is a big argument behind the quote. And that is…

Did Aristotle say we are what we repeatedly do?  Others claim that he did and others say he did not. And if you look at other sources, there is an image on Facebook and twitter that clearly shows that the Greek philosopher Aristotle Nicomachean Ethics said it. The main reason why others say he did not is that, there is a book called the story of philosophy which the quote appear to be originated from in 1926 by Durant.

But what people don’t know is that, Durant was making a reference to what Aristotle said. The book chapter 4 explains how your habit can work against you. And it did point out to the quote, that doesn’t mean it was said by Durant the author of the book.

What does we are what we repeatedly do mean?

What does we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act but a habit mean? That actually means to become successful or unsuccessful in life, it depends on the habit you build and the actions you take on those habit. So for example, if you have developed the habit of reading books. Then, one of the actions you can take is to not let your learning’s lead to knowledge but actions. That basically means, whatever you learn, take action on it because you will only see result when you do something. The fact that you have learned 100 ways to make money does not mean you will be rich no. You will only be when you act on that knowledge.

So, does that mean your daily habit is what will determine what you will be? Yes, because habits are nothing but what we repeatedly do. Let look at it this way, Imagine two students who are in the same class. One has the habit of playing video games all day and learning for only 30 minute. The other learns 5 hours each day and practice for 2 hours. Between these two students, whom do you think will achieve high score in the next exams? Is the second one right? Yes, because the other can’t waste all day holding gamepad and top the one who learns all day.

From the above example, what will cause the failure of the first student? It is surely his habit of playing games. So the lesson here is to pay close attention to what you repeatedly do. Those are the only essential things that are correlated to your success. You remember I promise you a gift right? Below it is…

We are what we repeatedly do examples

We are what we repeatedly do examples and other related quotes. I found all this great wise sayings in a book that focus mainly on life lessons. I think of it all day and I know you will love it…

  • “Man is made or unmade by himself.”
  • “Change your thinking and your life will change.”
  • “You get paid for the value you put in every day. Not the hours you show off.”
  • “The beginning of all accomplishment starts with desire.”
  • “When you know your why. The how become easy.”
  • “Success is nothing but daily small effort you put in.”
  • “Nothing will change until you change.”
  • “When you get better, your life will be great.”
  • “When something is important to you enough. Just do it even if the odds are not at your favor.”
  • “Begin with a plan and stick to it. That is your map to success.”
  • “Don’t dwell in the past. You can’t go back and alter anything. But you can change what is ahead of you.”

Final thought

In this step by step guide, I have shown you who said we are what we repeatedly do? The reason why he said it and it meaning. I have also given you some couple of great quote that will motivate you on your journey to success. What do you have to do? Is to take action and alter some of your bad habits that have nothing to do with the amazing life you wish to live in the future.

That is exactly what I did when I started before I got to where I am. Also, don’t forget the need to have a plan in life. Because without a plan in life, you can be caught in no man’s land.  Where you have no parent or relatives. What that basically means is that, if you don’t plan your life, you will fall into someone’s plan. And guest what they have planned for you? So my advice for you is to start with a plan. With a plan whenever you wake up each morning from bed, you will realize where you are heading to.

That is all the hacks I want to share with you. I hope you have learnt something out of it? Comment below if you have any suggestion or misunderstanding (no one is perfect, we are all learning from each other).

Finally we have seen how we can alter our habit and achieve great things in life. The next question is, with all these hacks – How can you become a millionaire overnight with no money?
